People endeavour, give themselves a voice, stand for something, expose their bodies. In so doing, they change; they cross a threshold. They make themselves visible, subject to criticism, vulnerable. Yet by showing their vulnerability, this changes from a defect that we seek to hide into something that we can consider a skill through the act of showing.

Boris Nikitin’s fourth production in Nuremberg examines a phenomenon that moves, confuses, incites or connects people like few others have in recent years: self-publication. From streets and squares to the echo chambers of digital media, people perform on the stage of reality like actors – but without a fictional role, and usually without memorising a script. Where does limitless self-publication lead when people become nervous and restless and start to rebel against the system that raised them? This is a many-voiced, contradictory portrait of our time that also provides insight into the mystery of theatre.
