Get ready to live!*
* Gustav Mahler – Symphony No. 2

The motto of our new season of concerts, which offers a lot of new material to accompany the evergreens, is “Get ready to live!” We have a raft of fantastic yet underperformed works, stars of tomorrow, raw, untested venues and programmes that serve up relationship fare, thought-provoking profundities and light entertainment.

The Philharmonic Concerts make connections between the hot topics of our day and the core messages of the major opera productions. The 1st Philharmonic Concert, “Against the Current”, and the opening premiere of “Mathis the Painter” both explore the central issue of the work and survival strategies of both an artist and the art world in times of censorship and existential menace. The “Back to Nature” concert is supporting the “Phil-CO2” initiative by going backwards in time from the nascent car industry to steam engines and further back to a pre-industrial age. And in a collaboration with all three Nuremberg concert choirs, the performance of Gustav Mahler’s “Resurrection Symphony” draws together all the musical forces of the Staatstheater on a single stage.

The “Dreiklang” series of concerts sees the Gustav-Adolf-Gedächtniskirche, the Zukunftsmuseum and the historic premises of the Germanisches Nationalmuseum transformed into atmospheric realms of sensory experience. And two “Excursion Concerts” invite audiences once again to soak up some fascinating insights into selected classical masterpieces. Closest to my own heart are the work being done in schools to encourage artistically inclined pupils and the projects involving the Junge Staatsphilharmonie. These are the cradles of our future audiences.

Welcome to our new season!
